During his visit, on June 16th, 2011 Mr. J. Pfeiffer has met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. N. Zohidov, as well as participated in a Round Table on the theme: "Peace in a Changing Development: New Challenges of 21stcentury in the financial and economic policy. " At a meeting of the Round Table the member of the Bundestag made a speech which stated his position on the EU Strategy for Central Asia, water issues in the region and building of Rogun HPP.
According to the deputy of Bundestag, Germany's relations with Tajikistan are based on the strategy of the European Union, which is aimed on stability in Central Asia, including Tajikistan.
"The objective of the Strategy-is the establishmentof mutual understandingin the region. But todaythe countries of regiondistant from each other, andtrying to attractwestern countries in solving their problems”– underlined Pfeiffer.
As an example the deputy of the Bundestag led the contradictions between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan associated with Rogun project. "The Rogun project is the best project for the development of the region. But Uzbekistan opposes it. Tajikistan should engage in dialogue with Uzbekistan, and even try to get Uzbekistan involved in the process of implementation of Rogun project "- concluded Pfeiffer.
